About This Piece

• Each piece is cut from one eucalyptus log, the centre scooped and the curve ground smooth by hand.
• The eucalyptus is charred by shou sugi ban, a Japanese method of burning that lifts the grain and hardens the wood.
• The wood opens fine lines as it settles into a room, keeping a record of where it has lived.
• The bench takes two or three at a time, and at this weight it needs more than one person to move.
